The other day I accrued $105 in overdraft fees. In one day. I KNOW. Steps have been put in place to ensure that it never happens again.* One hundred and five dollars! Do you know what I could buy with that much money? That's Starbucks every single day for a month. (aka BEST MONTH EVER.)
I noticed these overdraft fees the day after it all went down and immediately called Bank of America to see if there was anything I could do about them besides paying for them. Since they hadn't officially posted yet, there wasn't much the very-nice-lady could do for me, although she did help me avoid a few more overdraft fees heading my way that I couldn't yet see. She recommended that I call back the next day.
So I did. And this very-nice-lady said, "I see you haven't yet used your Stuff Happens card, which allows you one free overdraft. Would you like to use that?" I said sure. 2 is better than 3. Then she said, "Actually you don't need to use that, I can take care of all three of these for you right now. ENJOY YOUR MONTH AT STARBUCKS."
She didn't actually say that last part, and I'm not actually going to buy Starbucks every day for a month. But I could! The moral of this story is trifold: Bank of America is the best bank ever, it never hurts to ask, and overdrafts suck.
*Step 1: Don't be an idiot. Step 2: Pay attention.
