My favorite fabric designer, Lizzy House, recently released a fabric collection of CAT FABRICS. You can imagine how happy this made me. Then she announced a contest for dresses made out of said cat fabrics. Make a dress with cats on it for a chance to win sweet prizes? Twist my arm, why dontcha.
I decided to make what has become my go-to pattern, the Eucalypt. It's simple to sew and simple to wear. I'm not a huge dress person, mostly because wearing them makes me feel Dressed Up. I'm pretty much a jeans-and-tshirt girl, so a dress has to feel just as relaxed and just as simple to slip on. This dress fits the bill.
After I sewed up the main seams, I tried it on for a quick fit check/sneak peek and immediately realized this dress needed to be lined. Only problem is, I've never lined a dress (or anything) before. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided I could figure it out, so I bought some lining fabric and went to town.
The results were not good.
I took a couple hours to regroup, and then I came back with my seam ripper and took out every single stitch. Including 4 French seams. I did what I should have done in the first place and found a proper tutorial online, then got to work. And now I know how to line a dress!
I don't expect to win the contest, but I'm really happy with this dress so it's ok. I'm glad to have had a reason to make a dress I love so much! There are some really cute entries in the group so far, if you want to check them out!
ps: modeling is super awkward and I will never have a fashion blog.
